Your Experience, a Recognized Value in Laval

Collège Montmorency, the Commission scolaire de Laval and the Sir-Wilfrid-Laurier School Board have united to set up the recognition of prior learning and competencies services of Laval’s education network.

These services will allow the region’s francophone and anglophone adults to have the competencies that they acquired through real-life or on the job, to be officially recognized. This recognition will be carried out in relation to a targeted program of study, recognized by the Ministère de l'Éducation, du Loisir et du Sport (MELS). At the end of this simple and personalized process, adults will receive an official document from MELS attesting to the competencies mastered.

Offering theses services will respond to the many needs for recognition of prior learning and competencies in the Laval region, as much as for adults as for businesses. Emploi-Québec believes that roughly 33 000 jobs will need to be filled between 2006 and 2010. Moreover, certain activity sectors will experience strong growth, notably those in healthcare, social assistance, and professional and business services, resulting in an increased demand for qualified personnel. Recognition of prior learning and competencies services, combined with the missing training, will help meet these needs. In addition, there is a growing immigrant population in Laval. The regional office can facilitate and ensure the recognition of competencies acquired in other countries.

The regional office of the recognition of prior learning and competencies services for the Laval education system is already in operation. The reception centre is centralized at the Guichet counsel (at the Centre de formation Compétences-2000), located at 777, avenue de Bois-de-Boulogne, Laval (Québec) H7N 4G1.
