A fascinating region, both for its history and for the wonderful holidays that it offers, with an area of over 20 000 km, the Laurentides has a growing population and economy, which makes it the envy of other Québec regions. Besides tourism and the four internationally recognized seasons that characterizes this Québec region, the expansion of the business, transportation equipment, healthcare, social assistance and construction sectors has increased the regional economy and jobs in the Laurentides.

Two CEGEPs and five school boards, including an English school board, are partners in offering the population regional recognition of prior learning and competencies services. The Laurentides region chose to decentralize its services in order to facilitate access to its clientele by offering assistance closer to home, given the size of the area. Each educational institution has the responsibility of offering recognition of prior learning and competencies services in its sector. A resource person with expertise in the recognition of prior learning and competencies is assigned to this service in each of the partner organizations: CEGEP de Saint-Jérôme, Collège Lionel-Groulx, the Commission scolaire de la Rivière-du-Nord, the Commission scolaire de la Seigneurie-des-Milles-Îles, the Commission scolaire des Laurentides, the Commission scolaire Pierre-Neveu and the Sir-Wilfrid-Laurier School Board.
