The Lanaudière region is one of the central regions of Québec, located between the Laurentians and Mauricie. Its southern border runs alongside Laval and Montréal. Its 12 313 km2 land surface stretches out towards the north-east after being bathed in the waters of the Saint Lawrence River for over 60 km.

In 2006, the Lanaudière region had a population of 434 872. The region represented 5.7 per cent of Québec’s population and, in terms of population, ranked fifth among all the regions.
 
The Lanaudière region’s recognition of prior learning and competencies services consist of three public teaching establishments: the Commission scolaire des Affluents, the Commission scolaire des Samares and Cégep régional de Lanaudière. This grouping assures the accessibility of recognition of prior learning and competencies services across the region.
